Holiday Dinner Meetup
We are having our annual PKTO holiday dinner the 23rd of December and the MV will be closed for this event. If you wish to come out, visit pkto.ca (parkour community website), and sign up via there. The rest of the holiday hours will be up soon!
Last Minute Notice!
The gym floor will be out of use today from 1-3, you can use the weight room ONLY during this time, sorry for the inconvenience its been a hectic week we totally forgot about posting this. See you at 3!
Childrens Aid Foundation Performance
We are amidst rehearsals for the Children Aid Foundation’s “Teddy Bear Affair” Gala night at the Metro Convention Centre. A team of 4 will be jumping, climbing and fliping on a HUGE 30 foot tall scaffolding stage built to be a replica of the London Bridge. We will be performing with breakdancers, circus people, dancers and are working with Tre Armstong from “So You Think You Can Dance” who is our choreographer. This has been a very fun project so far, especially since we almost never get to play with a stage like this!
Parkour @ True North Climbing
This monday at 7pm, we will be running a Parkour technique class at True North Climbing that will run just over 30 mins. It’s going to be exciting to teach and train a group of climbers as Bouldering and Parkour are so similar without people even realizing. Both utilize a lot of strength, power, dynamism, technique, and both need an aptitude for planning what’s ahead. If you aren’t busy, want to do some Parkour and then climb after head over to True North. This class is free with normal climbing drop-in!!
Just a reminder Re:Classes!!
Just a reminder that our adult classes start tomorrow and the gym floor will be closed from 7pm-9pm. If you want to still come with your monthly pass, you can still use the weightroom, bouldering area, or catleap corner while the class is on. This is in effect every Wednesday all winter, so please mark your schedules. Granted, Wednesday is our least busy day at the training centre, so this shouldn’t change things too much =P
Parkour on Rich Bride Poor Bride
On Sunday night we did a small performance for Rich Bride Poor Bride that will air in a later episode. I don’t know the exact date when it will air, but probably within a month or so. PS! Congratulations Wilson and Melanie on your marriage.
Downtown Mini Parkour Performance
I’ve been redoing the backend of the site a bit (the part you can’t see), and I keep forgetting to update the main site with what we have been up to. We did a little chase scene with the theme being, wait for it, (howd you guess) … Italian Job! Here’s a picture of Mich doing a backflip off a Mini Cooper concept car @ Downtown Mini for their grand opening party.

Parkour Program
Starting Oct 6th and running 12 weeks we will start up our fall Parkour program again. If you have taken an intro class, and were told you are ready for further group classes, this is the one for you. If you haven’t taken an intro class it’s ok, these classes are still for you. Picking up from (and reviewing) the intro class we go into 12 weeks of other techniques and how to link them together, intro to conditioning, intro to a more sport specific diet, flexibility for Parkour and homework challenges. The price for these classes is 20 dollars drop in, or 175 for all 12, and the classes run every Wednesday 7pm-8:30pm until the end of Dec. You can reserve a spot in person during our normal hours, or send us an email / phone call with questions. (For existing drop-in members, please see new modified drop in hours coming soon!)
Summers Over…
First of all I want to take this time to appologize a little bit for the huge huge backlog of people we had for intro classes at the end of of the summer holidays. We were pretty busy with MV stuff, PKTO stuff, and our own personal training that it ended up being a lot to handle. At the end of the day we are passionate athletes here at the MV, not business men, and it shows sometimes =P. Now that summer is over and everyone is going back to school, we will resume, and hopefully catch up, on all our work. Our winter training schedule will be out soon, conditioning schedule, and intro classes are up and running again. We hope to see you all soon!
City Chase is back!
This Saturday we will be hosting City Chasers again as the Monkey Vault is being used as a checkpoint yet again. Because of this the hours of the MV will be pushed a little back on Saturday, with open gym starting at 4pm instead of 2:30. Also, we are looking for some volunteers to help out at the event. If you can volunteer we will provide you with some community hours if you need them, and free gym time for the rest of the day afterwards.
Sunday; Need Volunteers!
The Monkey Vault will be closed this Sunday and we will be using it as a construction/cleanup day in preparation for the big summer meet. We will be meeting at 9am, and we are looking for volunteers that want to come paint, build, clean, and etc. We will be providing you with pizza and drinks, and community service hours if you need them. I hope a bunch can come out and help because we have A LOT of work to do!! If you can come out and help let us know as soon as possible. If you were planning on coming to the MV that day, come Saturday instead, it’s been a lot slower lately because everyone has been going Sunday instead.
Tentative Summer Meet Schedule
Here is the final (as of right now but can still change) schedule for the Canadian Parkour Summer meet…
Friday July 30th
1pm-5pm Parkour Conditioning Combine Testing; 5pm-8pm Food and discussion; 8pm-1am Night Training Downtown Toronto
Saturday July 31st
10am-12pm Morning workout and Stretch; 12pm-6pm Ash Bridges Bay Park, 6pm-12am Downtown Training
Sunday August 1st
11am Cloud Gardens Parkour Races; 2pm Cloud Garden Parkour Races Finalists; 3pm-11pm Downtown Training
We will be using the Monkey Vault for a meet up spot each day in the morning for ease of use. A lot of what people learn during this weekend is shared with each other during times were we might not be doing an event or training, so your best bet is to stick around a lot. I know personally I had an amazing conversation at like 3am last year at the summer meet which was invaluable in the long run. For those of you that are sleeping at the MV its important to note we will have a curfew this year, meaning everyone will have to go to sleep eventually at a certain time.
The Parkour Hostel.. We mean gym…
We will be accepting out-of-towners who wish to sleep at the MonkeyVault Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for the Canadian summer meet happening July 30th to August 1st. If you are saying the weekend, staying extra or coming earlier, you MUST let us know via email what you wish your plans to be! You are asked to make a donation of 10 dollars each night or 25 bucks for 3 nights you decide to stay here.
The address of the training centre is 213 Geary Ave. M6H 2C1
If you look that up in a map program you will surely find it.There are also directions on the website on the contact us section. If you are coming out of town and flying into the airport, let us know and we will see what we can do about arrangements!
Cloud Garden Adult Class
We will still be running this weekends Saturday morning outdoor conditioning class regardless of the long weekend. We know many probably can’t make it, but if you are in town and want to try outdoor Parkour under a coaches instruction, come on out! We meet every Saturday at 11am at Cloud Gardens park in Toronto (Richmond and Yonge behind the Bay building) rain or shine. Cost is 10 dollars and the class usually runs about an hour and 15 mins.
July Girls Parkour Meet
Another girls parkour meet! What to say about this one; Theme… Obstacle course races and chasing each other? Something like that!! Time and date below, sign up via email if you are coming!
Date: Sunday July 11th, 11am sharp! (doors open around 10). No experience required.
Canada Day, No Parkour
The Monkey Vault will be closed this Thursday on Canada day. It’s been a common theme to close down on holidays unless there is huge interest for a special event. I personally will be out in the sun, training in nature, and I wish you all the same! Do something cool!!
G20 Outdoor Class Changes
The outdoor adult class will be changed tomorrow to a different location because of G20. We will be moving from our normal location of Cloud Gardens Park, and we will be meeting at Spadina and Bloor instead, just a little north. The south-east corner has a small park and we will be meeting there. The time is still 11am!
Canada’s Most Conditioned Traceur?
At this years summer meet (see other post for details), we will be having a contest to test certain abilities of traceurs from all across Canada. We will be having 6 events, geared towards testing various physical abilities used in Parkour. Power, Strength, Grip, Coordination,….. We’ve selected a few tests to measure these things in a way they apply to Parkour. We will be releasing the sign up sheet (we wont allow everyone to participate sorry), and the tests very soon and the requirements you need to sign up. Until then start getting ready and gearing up towards this! For those wondering if this will be a lot of weights, I will give you a hint and also the first test; the only thing that involves weights is we will be testing max deadlift.
Mitsubishi City Chase
On Saturday we will be hosting challenge point for the 100th Mitsubishi City Chase putting participants through a couple awesome challenges. I can’t say more than that, we can’t spoil it for participants! For those that don’t know what City Chase is, head over to http://www.mitsubishicitychase.com/ and check out their website!
Because of this, the open gym Saturday training will start at 4pm instead of the normal 2:30, sorry about the last minute change!
Canadian Summer Parkour Jam…
I like summer jam, it’s the best flavor of Jam.. Last year over 225 people in the span of a weekend showed up to make it all together. I’m pretty sure the flavor was blueberry-awesome, or something like that…
This year the MonkeyVault is hosting another big meetup, or “jam”, like people like to call it sometimes in hopes of making it as memorable as last year. Friday July 30th, Saturday July 31st, August 1st. The MonkeyVault will again be housing people for the event if you are coming from out of town and have no where to stay. Full details on how to reserve your spot, what we will be doing, and all the other details coming this week! Stay tuned and get ready to make some sweet sweet jam with us.
