Ido Portal Workshops
Some people may have noticed that we have had a special guest in the MV the last week…. Ido Portal is around in Toronto and has been using the MV as his training gym, and this week is running 3 private workshops inside the space. That being said the gym and all classes are canceled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week (31st, 1st, 2nd). The MV returns to its normal self on Friday February 2nd.
Salvation Army Gym Closure
We will have a group coming to the gym from the downtown Salvation Army and it will be causing a gym closure from 1:30-5pm on Saturday January 21st. Open gym will resume at 5pm on the main floor, but if you are only there for conditioning/bouldering you can use those spaces.
Year Pass Sale
For the month of January, we will be having a sale on our year passes, normally 650, they are 500 if bought in January. We only sell 10 year passes at this price.
Parkour Challenge Night #2
We will be hosting another night full of challenges at Toronto Climbing Academy, a local climbing gym on FRIDAY DECEMBER 30TH AT 8PM SHARP!!!!!! Those that were there last time know how COOL Parkour challenges can be inside a climbing gym. We are really excited about this one because of the shape and cool features the gym has. The cost of this event is 25 dollars paid at the door. We have a facebook group going for those that want to sign up and ask questions (everyone seems to be using fb now a days!?!). I hope to see MANY of you guys out there, burn off some of those winter calories. I will be spamming the emails soon to all you lazy guys that I know should be there but are on the fence!!!!! =P!
Volunteers and other supporters are welcomed out! Get in contact with us via the contact page.

Canadian Parkour Summer Meet
Because of our annual summer meet, the MV and all lessons, private classes and drop-ins are canceled for this weekend. If you show up, for indoor Parkour training, no one will be here. On a side note, our event it open to everyone, so if you would like to take part and don’t already know about it, wait for the next post and read the last one.
Parkour Challenge Night
I don’t have an official name for this event, but we will be hosting a night full of challenges at True North Climbing, a local climbing gym. You may wonder, Parkour in a climbing gym? We’ll funny enough, yes! We have setup wall climbs, tictacs, cat to cat, dynos, wall traverses just like the MonkeyVault has, balances challenges, and more. This challenge night pretty much encompasses a lot of the stuff we do in the MonkeyVault on a daily basis. The cost of this event is 20 dollars (includes tax), paid at the door and there’s a limit of 100 spots at the moment! We are setting up a way now to reserve your spot
After you register for the event you will be given a sheet with 25 challenges listed and given a little time to walk around the gym to check them out without trying them. The challenges will be all over the gym, and marked according to number. Specific rules and safety stuff will be given the day of, so we wont talk about those now. You will be given 2 hours to complete all the challenges and after that, the ones who have completed the challenges will go on to a final round with 3 harder challenges.
It’s a huge honor for us to be allowed to come in and use another gyms space, so let me take this time now (and there will be more) to thank True North Climbing, and Dustin Kerr and Jonny Briggs specifically for helping out on the event problems.
Long Weekend Hours
The MV will be open normal hours all Canada Day weekend! We will be closed Monday as per our usual schedule.
Parkour Birthday
Because of a Parkour Birthday Party, open gym time will start at 3pm on Sunday June 19th!
MV closed Wed/Thurs 7pm
Because of a couple workshops we are having at the MV this week, and the space we will need, we will be closing down the space at 7pm Wednesday and Thursday (June 8th and 9th). All classes private/group/adult will be canceled for the week, so you get a nice week off before we come back next week with some new ideas for you all.
Hiring Parkour Instructors
We are currently in the process of looking for more Parkour instructors to expand our current program. What does the MV look for when hiring an instructor?
We are looking for people who are extremely self motivated, very outgoing and have an awesome personality. Good looking is a bonus! Basically we need more Danno’s.
All jokes aside (Danno’s definitely not good looking), if you are interested in this position and want to learn more, there’s zero need to give us a resume (they are stupid!), there’s also no need to do anything special, wear a fancy shirt or have special schooling. Come in and talk to us and tell us why you would want to work at the MV and why you think you would be a good fit.
The Awakening
On Saturday May 14th, a group of about 10 will be performing at the Art Gallery of Ontario for a contemporary performance piece sponsored by the Art Gallery of York University. Tickets are free and can be picked up directly at the AGO the day of the show. The show starts at 4, so you should get there early to get a good viewpoint to watch. Come out and support us! Here’s a pic from one of the promo pieces (there’s also an ad in Now! magazine for those that read it):

Beat The World Movie
They just recently released a trailer to the Beat The World movie, in which the MV was one of the training grounds for the cast while they were here. They came once a week for a couple months to train on flips and some ideas for the film, and were a blast to work with. Here’s the trailer for the film on youtube:
Spring Cleanup Sunday
The MV will be closed ALL DAY SUNDAY. Repeat for those that always show up anyways, IT WILL BE CLOSED ALL DAY SUNDAY! Every Spring and Fall we spend one day completely gutting the MV and putting it back together. Take the gymnastics floor apart, re-safety all the equipment, paint, clean, and etc. We are still looking for volunteers who want to come help out, those who still need community service hours this is a great time to get them! Please email us if you want to help out, or those who are around a lot know where/how to find me =P
March 27th Revised Hours
Open training time will be limited to 4pm-9pm on Sunday March 27th due to an event! We’re sorry if the remaining 5 hours is not enough to satisfy your training =P
No open gym tonight and Friday
Tonight 7pm onwards (so so soooo sorry for last minute, i made a schedule goof-up) and Friday from 7pm onwards open gym time will be closed. Part of the reason we are getting a new space sometime hopefully by the end of the year, is so that when large groups come, we don’t have to close down open gym for space. As always you can still come climb and workout if you like, but the blue floor is not useable.
We’re Guilty!
Welcome to 2011, it’s been a great and extremely busy year for us so far here at the MV, and it’s also been exactly 1 month since this news blog has been updated. Why 1 month! Blasphemy you say! Read on…
So far this year we have changed a bunch of ways this training space works. We removed the “try the MV for 10 bucks”, because over the last year it was being abused by people and lead to too many problems. We also tightened up the rules a bit, like enforcing the shoe rule even more, taking more action against people who abuse equipment, and so on. Respect is more and more an issue in the MV and lets just say if respect isn’t a 2 way thing, it’s not going to exist. We won’t go out of our way to be nice to you if you are breaking rules, wrecking equipment and training unsafe.
Where’s the classes? The classes are starting back up again very soon. We got a slew of “new years resolution” people during the end of Dec and first week of Jan. Those are not the type of people we look for at the MV. We want people who will commit beyond the first 2 weeks of the year. We are still, and will forever remain, an un-business-oriented space, meaning quality of training, accepting people who actually want to train and learn, getting people results, comes far ahead of making a quick buck. We still don’t sell monthly passes to people we feel wont show up, that rule will never change.
We mentioned at our holiday dinner that we will be attempting to move to a bigger location by the end of the year. This requires a lot of help for our community. This year more than ever we need a lot of support because it will be a big project, but the outcome (we think) will be phenomenal. That’s it for now. More news to come.
Year Pass Sale
Every year around this time we sell a limited supply of year passes at a discounted price to those who know they want to spend a lot of time playing with us at the MV. This year will follow suit and we will be again selling ten year passes, at $550 (tax included) each. This money helps us start the year off right by paying for all our heating expenses during the winter, and leftover usually get us a new toy for the gym. Those who come out to the MV a lot know how we need to replace those foam blocks! ha! These can be picked up and started this week, or can be bought in the new year.
