City Chase is back!
This Saturday we will be hosting City Chasers again as the Monkey Vault is being used as a checkpoint yet again. Because of this the hours of the MV will be pushed a little back on Saturday, with open gym starting at 4pm instead of 2:30. Also, we are looking for some volunteers to help out at the event. If you can volunteer we will provide you with some community hours if you need them, and free gym time for the rest of the day afterwards.
Sunday; Need Volunteers!
The Monkey Vault will be closed this Sunday and we will be using it as a construction/cleanup day in preparation for the big summer meet. We will be meeting at 9am, and we are looking for volunteers that want to come paint, build, clean, and etc. We will be providing you with pizza and drinks, and community service hours if you need them. I hope a bunch can come out and help because we have A LOT of work to do!! If you can come out and help let us know as soon as possible. If you were planning on coming to the MV that day, come Saturday instead, it’s been a lot slower lately because everyone has been going Sunday instead.
Tentative Summer Meet Schedule
Here is the final (as of right now but can still change) schedule for the Canadian Parkour Summer meet…
Friday July 30th
1pm-5pm Parkour Conditioning Combine Testing; 5pm-8pm Food and discussion; 8pm-1am Night Training Downtown Toronto
Saturday July 31st
10am-12pm Morning workout and Stretch; 12pm-6pm Ash Bridges Bay Park, 6pm-12am Downtown Training
Sunday August 1st
11am Cloud Gardens Parkour Races; 2pm Cloud Garden Parkour Races Finalists; 3pm-11pm Downtown Training
We will be using the Monkey Vault for a meet up spot each day in the morning for ease of use. A lot of what people learn during this weekend is shared with each other during times were we might not be doing an event or training, so your best bet is to stick around a lot. I know personally I had an amazing conversation at like 3am last year at the summer meet which was invaluable in the long run. For those of you that are sleeping at the MV its important to note we will have a curfew this year, meaning everyone will have to go to sleep eventually at a certain time.
The Parkour Hostel.. We mean gym…
We will be accepting out-of-towners who wish to sleep at the MonkeyVault Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for the Canadian summer meet happening July 30th to August 1st. If you are saying the weekend, staying extra or coming earlier, you MUST let us know via email what you wish your plans to be! You are asked to make a donation of 10 dollars each night or 25 bucks for 3 nights you decide to stay here.
The address of the training centre is 213 Geary Ave. M6H 2C1
If you look that up in a map program you will surely find it.There are also directions on the website on the contact us section. If you are coming out of town and flying into the airport, let us know and we will see what we can do about arrangements!
Cloud Garden Adult Class
We will still be running this weekends Saturday morning outdoor conditioning class regardless of the long weekend. We know many probably can’t make it, but if you are in town and want to try outdoor Parkour under a coaches instruction, come on out! We meet every Saturday at 11am at Cloud Gardens park in Toronto (Richmond and Yonge behind the Bay building) rain or shine. Cost is 10 dollars and the class usually runs about an hour and 15 mins.
July Girls Parkour Meet
Another girls parkour meet! What to say about this one; Theme… Obstacle course races and chasing each other? Something like that!! Time and date below, sign up via email if you are coming!
Date: Sunday July 11th, 11am sharp! (doors open around 10). No experience required.
Canada Day, No Parkour
The Monkey Vault will be closed this Thursday on Canada day. It’s been a common theme to close down on holidays unless there is huge interest for a special event. I personally will be out in the sun, training in nature, and I wish you all the same! Do something cool!!
G20 Outdoor Class Changes
The outdoor adult class will be changed tomorrow to a different location because of G20. We will be moving from our normal location of Cloud Gardens Park, and we will be meeting at Spadina and Bloor instead, just a little north. The south-east corner has a small park and we will be meeting there. The time is still 11am!
Canada’s Most Conditioned Traceur?
At this years summer meet (see other post for details), we will be having a contest to test certain abilities of traceurs from all across Canada. We will be having 6 events, geared towards testing various physical abilities used in Parkour. Power, Strength, Grip, Coordination,….. We’ve selected a few tests to measure these things in a way they apply to Parkour. We will be releasing the sign up sheet (we wont allow everyone to participate sorry), and the tests very soon and the requirements you need to sign up. Until then start getting ready and gearing up towards this! For those wondering if this will be a lot of weights, I will give you a hint and also the first test; the only thing that involves weights is we will be testing max deadlift.
Mitsubishi City Chase
On Saturday we will be hosting challenge point for the 100th Mitsubishi City Chase putting participants through a couple awesome challenges. I can’t say more than that, we can’t spoil it for participants! For those that don’t know what City Chase is, head over to http://www.mitsubishicitychase.com/ and check out their website!
Because of this, the open gym Saturday training will start at 4pm instead of the normal 2:30, sorry about the last minute change!
Canadian Summer Parkour Jam…
I like summer jam, it’s the best flavor of Jam.. Last year over 225 people in the span of a weekend showed up to make it all together. I’m pretty sure the flavor was blueberry-awesome, or something like that…
This year the MonkeyVault is hosting another big meetup, or “jam”, like people like to call it sometimes in hopes of making it as memorable as last year. Friday July 30th, Saturday July 31st, August 1st. The MonkeyVault will again be housing people for the event if you are coming from out of town and have no where to stay. Full details on how to reserve your spot, what we will be doing, and all the other details coming this week! Stay tuned and get ready to make some sweet sweet jam with us.
Pass the news around….. ![]()
Advanced Conditioning starts up again…
Last week we started out advanced conditioning program up again with great success and week 2 we decided to mix it up a notch. Last night for our workout finisher, we pulled the MonkeyVault FJ Cruiser up and down the street several times and liked it so much we will be including it as part of our finishers every now and then. This Sunday night we are thinking of having a car pulling sprint competition, if you are interested in coming out for this let us know but its not for the faint of heart.
This is also a good time to remind people, what are YOU doing to condition for Parkour? If its countless variations of pushups, randon leg exercises, and more crawling around than you are pushing, pulling, and throwing stuff, ….. You are seriously doing it wrong.
Here’s a pic from the end of the night:

smart Expeditions Toronto; Parkour the smart!
We just finished 3 days of performances for smart car in the Distillery district in Toronto which involved us jumping and flipping off smart cars (yes this was fun!). The performance was part of the smart Expeditions - Toronto test drive event where along with test driving a smart car, you are given a unique experience of the city. We will be performing 2 more days, Friday June 11th and Saturday June 12th. If you want to watch us from inside a smart car, you can show up at the distillery district and sign up, or sign up online at http://www.smartexpeditions.ca/ . Here’s a video someone took on the weekend, showcasing our outdoor performance. We may upload the footage from the indoor performances later on.
Danno + Fall + 500 Bouncyballs
The 2nd edition of “Poor but Sexy” came out with the a featured shot of Danno falling in the MonkeyVault with 500 or so bouncyballs alongside him. The picture turned out really cool, and to see the 2 page thread head to this link: http://www.seed9photography.com/projects/poor-but-sexy-vol2-spreads#4
Sunday Parkour Class Canceled
We realized after making them that having 2 identical classes right now on Saturday and Sunday can be a little confusing. For the time being we are canceling the Sunday classes and will resume them in a couple weeks when we can organize groups better. If you were heading out to the Sunday classes we are really sorry, hope you can make it the Saturday. Just a reminder we will be meeting at Cloud Gardens (Richmond/Yonge) Saturday at 11am! Email us if you have last minute questions.
Parkour on YTV The Zone
Today we filmed a Parkour segment for YTV that involved us bringing host Carlos through a Parkour lesson. As much as people think that Parkour on TV is fake, and ill assure you most of the time it is, Carlos impressed us beyond belief. He even went as far as getting a wall spin (on the real wall) his first day. Super kudos to Carlos and YTV for coming to The Monkey Vault to film.
Short Hours on Wednesday
Because we will all be gone at the advanced screening of Prince of Persia on Wednesday the 26th the MV will be closed past 6pm. The hours will be 3pm-6pm! Because of this we will be offering a discount tomorrow to those that do come and train between that time. Sorry for this inconvenience.
Prince of Persia Advance Screening
Disney has been nice enough to send us over a TON of Prince of Persia gear from books to watches to tshirts and bags, we will be giving it all away in an event coming up very soon! Until then we are giving away 50 free tickets to an advance screening of the movie taking place Wednesday May 26th! If you want a ticket all you have to do is contact us and come pick it up (or make some other deal to meet us there). Because of the amount of people that train at the MV, I will do this first come first serve to be fair to everyone. So, as Brandon would say, DONT SLEEP!!
Taco Bell Tour Finished Up
Last Friday we just finished up a cross Canada tour for Taco Bell, going from various locations and showing out stuff. We coordinated a team from Toronto and Vancouver to take care of it and it went without a hitch. An extra round of applauds goes to our Vancouver team for doing such a good job under a very tight schedule. If you saw us at a Taco Bell location, we hope you enjoyed it! During this tour we also saw the completion and release of the viral video we shot in Brampton. You can watch it below:
Smart Car and Parkour
In the beginning of June a team sent out from the MV will be doing shows for 4 days for an arts festival in the distillery district put on by smart car. Can’t really say much more at this time, but bouncing around and flipping off of smart cars is going to be very very fun!
