The Parkour/Freerunning Hostel

A “Parkour/Freerunning Hostel”, the Canadian hub to Parkour in the world. This what people have started calling us, and we will gladly accept the compliments. The last couple weeks brought even more guests this time from Germany, and the UK to have fun and enjoy the training centre and the BEST Parkour/Freerunning training system in the world bar none. We expect even more guests in the near future, and, we welcome them with open arms. We love your support, and in return, we promise to work you hard!

Women’s Day Parkour

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, The Monkey Vault will be running a women’s Parkour workshop! The workshop will cost 20 dollars and will run from 1pm-3:30pm with free time after to hang out at the training centre. Reserve your spot via email, on the contact us page.

We will do a warm up together, work on introducing and learning a bunch of fun techniques, and touch on the importance of conditioning through some various circuits specifically made for beginners to Parkour. It should prove to be yet another great event and like all our events, focused primarily on having FUN! If you or anyone knows of a female that would love to try Parkour out, this is the best day to get them involved bar none! By all means pass this message along to them.

Check out this video from the last womens workshop we had, with only a quarter of the equipment we have now:

Parkour Dodgeball Tourney Results

Congratulations to all the 12 teams that came out to compete in our first ever Parkour Dodgeball Tourney at the MV. It ended up being interesting, and even I who put on the event, didn’t know what to expect. I was really surprised that some teams did better, and some did worse than I thought. A huge good job goes out to Nick, Graham and Graham, Team H-Bums, for winning the tournament.

Some of you may be wondering where the prizes were, but I decided I would do something different. Instead of buying a bunch of prizes, I decided that I would write 2 cheques instead, donating 50% of the money the teams payed that day to play back to PKTO.ca to help support a couple communities that are really taking off, subsidize an event of their own. The Monkey Vault strives to make the Parkour community itself here better, whether it be through events, teaching, information, or even taking the time to come out and visit/subsidize events.

Again, congratulations to everyone that participated. One more successful community event in the bag.

Strength Training Record Board

Last week we put up a record board of achievements for the Strength and Conditioning area of the training centre. We will keep this board up to record the major achievements of different weight classes throughout our trainings, and it will be used to remind people they have to keep pushing to greater heights. As it stands we have certain catagories; Female, Under 16, 155lbs and under, 155-190, 190+ and MV guests. Last week a guest from Rochester put up an awesome 23 dead hang pullups, which I think will stay up in the guest catagory for a while. Not only that, but it has several guys here in the training centre ready to hunt it down themselves. Let the competitions begin!

Parkour Buffalo Returns

Following the hugely successful meet up with the Rochester Parkour guys, the Buffalo Parkour guys have decided to return yet again for another training session this time with a bigger crew. Last time was the first time 2 of us got palm flips, so hopefully that energy is present yet again and we learn a few more tricks. This time around, I hope they bring a car that does not break every Canadian road safety code though (for their safety.. well and mine), and, there isn’t a massive Toronto power outage. Should be fun! Everyone is welcome out Friday night and Saturday for the PKTO gym meet to join in.

Bite.ca webshow @ MV

Next week we will be shooting a segment for “Rippin It N Lippin It” a webshow broadcast on Bite Tv. We will be bringing the host, Renee Paquette (who seems very eager to start via email) through a Parkour lesson here at the Vault. We’ll write about it here when the final video is up, but in the meantime if you want to check out some of her previous shows, click HERE

Rochester Parkour Visits

Continuing our trend of visitors from all over the world coming to train with us, this week sees a fairly large group from Rochester New York driving up to the gym to train 3 days with us. We LOVE training new groups to death, so this weekend will obviously be a blast for both us and them! We are continuously refining out visitors training program to make sure people get the best bang for their buck when they come stay, and this weekend is ram packed with training because of this. Saturday should be a great ‘PKTO gym meet’, so if you were hesitant on coming, hopefully we just made up your mind and you’ll pass by to say hello to our guests.

Out of towners, contact us, come stay with us, we love training you! =P
