January 1st Training
January 1st we will be having a large group training at the Monkey Vault training centre. Itll consist of a special training made specifically for the day.
We will running a training based on the ‘12 days of Christmas’ festive song. You will run through the workout the same way as the song, each day has an exercise attached to it. So it’s Day 1, Day2,1, Day 3,2,1 and so on all the way to 12 day.
Might as well spend your first day of the year pushing yourself the way you should be for ATLEAST 200 out of the remaining 365… We are here to get you started the right way. It’s 15 dollars drop in as always. Gym opens early, 10am. See you there.
Secrets of the Vault
As the website and training centre continues to grow, we are getting more and more emails asking us for training advice, training program help, gym meet structures, general tips and so on. After a lot of thinking, we realized that these questions deserve to be answered online for people to see! As much as a lot of Parkour companies out there are trying to hide their training methods, we want ours to be as widespread as possible as we feel we have such a great Parkour program to share with others! As such in the new year we will be launching a new section on the website where you can submit any type of Parkour training question in, and the best question/answers will appear on the site. Send in your questions if you have them, or wait until it goes up to see more. New questions will go up biweekly!
Holiday Hours
We will be open throughout the holidays! Christmas Eve from 3pm-9pm (Shortened Schedule). The only day the gym will be closed is Christmas day (I would have even opened if enough people wanted to come). News to come about a potential New Years obstacle course meet at the gym (people have been asking for the gym to have New Years, email me if you too are interested!). See you here!! With school off there has been some new faces and a lot of good training lately.
PKTO.ca Holiday Dinner
This Sunday (the 21st) The Monkey Vault will be hosting the PKTO end of year Holiday Dinner + Meet. Official details are on PKTO.ca but the gist of things is that we will be training here ALL NIGHT on Sunday. As a reminder, the Parkour Methods Seminar is happening in the morning, and the PKTO.ca meetup at night, so there will be NO OPEN GYM AT ALL, on Sunday. See you all this weekend!
Mirrors Edge Obstacle Course on Youtube
We just uploaded another video onto our Youtube account. This time it’s the full video from the Mirror’s Edge Obstacle course meet we had back in November. The goal was for people to run through it and each time for them to beat their previous time, else face a lot of conditioning. It turned out to be a really cool day, and we are planning to have meets like this (obstacle course specific) about once a month in the new year. Link to the video is here and make sure you check out the other videos in our account!
Brayden in 3run Video!
One of our very own members, Brayden Jones, has a couple clips in the latest 3run video. We are super proud (and also super jealous) that he is there training with the 3run crew. Someone finally caught his made up wallspin on camera, and check out that PKTO shirt he’s wearing! Brings tears to our eyes! Video is HERE.
Thursdays = Trick Night
Here’s a cool video from two Thursdays ago. For those out of the loop, there’s a tricking session every Thursday night run by Jonny here at the MonkeyVault. Check out this video and a taste of the atmosphere on Thursday. Video here!
December Hours!
All classes and programs for the winter term are now finished, which means a lot of open time! Hours until January are as follows: M-F 3pm-11pm, Sat 1:30-11pm, Sun 1-9pm. Yes it’s open everyday! Drop in is still a cheap 15 dollars a session! We will also not allow anymore memberships to go mid month and cross over into January, because the rules for memberships will change then. If you wish to get unlimited till the end of Dec, we will charge a discounted rate to cover the days remaining in the month. Hope to see you out!
Thoughts on training…
After coming back from the seminar in the states, I’ve had a lot of questions via msn/email on what was talked about there, what advices, training tips and so on I learnt, and, if what I do here will change because of it. I must say, it was a refreshing experience hanging out with a group of 25 people who had varying degrees of sports backgrounds that were non-parkour related and hearing their views on Parkour. I learnt a lot and the experience was phenomenal but more importantly I was shown that with all the books I read and research I do daily, I had overcomplicated my thinking process. In the following month leading up to January, this site will change a lot because of the refinement of ideas I got from that group and specially Joe D himself. Along with the changes to the site, there will be new changes implemented inside the training centre that consist of a base program ALL new serious athletes have to go through, an entrance test to prove you are serious about training, dedicated training time-slots for serious people, a record board, and lots more. January 1st will mark a new era (the first era was pretty short) in the training centre. I want to separate the serious people who want to improve, with those who come here to play and have fun. They are two very different groups and I respect both equally, but I have come to the realization that mixing them might not be what I want in this training centre anymore. More thoughts to come later….
Zoom Zoom Magazine
Tomorrow morning we will be doing a small Parkour photoshoot with Zoom Zoom magazine at Nathan Phillips Square. The photoshoot will be part of a bigger piece they are doing on Parkour.
